Summer heat can be tough on cars. Overheating, dead batteries, broken ACs, and blown tires can slow you down, or worse, leave you stuck with a breakdown. But with some prep, you can avoid hot weather issues.
Here’s how to prepare your car for the summer:
1. Top up your fluids
Coolant, oil, brake fluid, and more need to be all full and fresh. Coolant is key to stopping your engine from overheating. Keep a spare bottle in your boot, just in case.
2. Check belts and hoses
Heat can cause cracks and blisters. Ask your mechanic to inspect them before the real heat kicks in.
3. Watch your tires
Hot weather makes air expand. That means your tire pressure can go up or down fast. Check it often and keep it at the right level to avoid a blowout.
4. Test your AC
No one wants to drive in a sauna. Make sure your air conditioning is blowing cold before summer hits full blast. Your riders (and your own sweat glands) will thank you.
5. Pack an emergency kit
Breakdowns can happen, even with the best prep. Keep jumper cables, water, snacks, a torch, road flares, and a first aid kit in your car.
6. Stick to highways when you can
They’re often smoother and better maintained than side streets. That can help protect your tires and engine when it’s boiling outside.
